Music 173: instructions for
using computers (Winter 2001)
COURSE URL: https://msp.ucsd.edu/syllabi/173.02w/
The main software tools we'll use are:
- Audacity, an open-source (free) sound
editor;
- Csound, the standard audio rendering package, also
free.
Audacity comes from the Carnegie-Mellon
Computer Science department and is available at https://audacity.sourceforge.net/.
You can just grab the "zip" file and decompress it, or else use the
self-installing binary. Csound comes from ftp://ftp.maths.bath.ac.uk/pub/dream/newest/
. Get "csound_new.zip". An HTML manual can be found on https://www.lakewoodsound.com/csound/
. There are many other Csound resources that you can search for on
the web.
Courseware.
are copies of Audacity,
Csound, and starter files for using Csound. Directions for using
csound are in the "README.txt" file. Download the whole collection
(or omit the executable files if you already have
them).
The Csound files are also available for Macinstoshes and unix
machines.
