This course will evolve interactively but will cover approximately the
following topics, perhaps in this or some other order:
- the PARC/Macintosh paradigm and its discontents
- "metaphors", data structures, and graphical representations of data
- signals and systems theory in computer music
- control theory: noise, accuracy, time constants, closed-loop control systems
- properties of physical interfaces
- Jaime Oliver's choice of 3 prototypical computer music instruments
- "parameter spaces"
- synchronization and internal states of instruments
- sonic, graphical and haptic feedback
